SPRING SUMMER 2016 Collection
On June 25, ISSEY MIYAKE MEN presented its SPRING SUMMER 2016 Collection at Musée du quai Branly. Tokyo and Mexico, two cities full of life where nature collides with the urban on every street corner, form the inspiration for the collection. This season, the man is an urban animal for whom the city is a colorful second nature, interacting with the rest of the world.
This collection will appear in shops in early December 2015.
The first group of the collection showcases the work of photographer Yoshinori Mizutani. Mr. Mizutani's TOKYO PARROTS captures the wild parrots of Tokyo's streets. His photos are transformed into wearable art and woven into high-gage, Jacquard suits and separates. Poplin and jersey shirts are printed with the vibrant images, while additional printed fabrics are transformed further by being cut into fine strips, and woven into tweed jackets, and shorts, or loose knit sweaters.
Inspired by the vivid colors of Mexico City and Luis Barragan's architecture, this group utilizes bold color blocking and linear lines to capture that spirit. Hemp and cotton-linen garments are paired with double-faced, long vests, jackets and shorts for a sporty feel. While lightweight, embroidered coats and jackets reference the traditional craftsmanship of Mexican textiles.
The last part of the collection features a refreshing street style, inspired by Mr. Mizutani's COLORS series. His photos are digitally printed onto shirts, shorts, scarves and bags. The abstract images of Tokyo convey the idea that everyday scenery can look impressively beautiful with a different perspective.

The collection was first released in 1976 together with the women's line, and became a men's collection in 1978. In 1985, the brand individually showed a men's collection at Paris Fashion Week. Starting with the Spring and Summer 2012 Collection, the brand name was changed to ISSEY MIYAKE MEN, and Yusuke Takahashi and his team have been placed in charge of creating it since Spring Summer 2014 Collection. By setting functionality and comfort of wear as the basic concept, the brand is able to constantly transmit new messages throughout the world.
