KURA Exhibition “IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE”
This is the 5th collection of the series “IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE”, in which the poster work of Ikko Tanaka, a graphic designer, is expressed by clothes and accessories. The series was launched in 2016 as an expression of Issey Miyake’s respect for Tanaka’s works, and gratitude for all that they have inspired.
This time we selected the works which were exhibited in the solo exhibition “Ikko Tanaka Exhibition: Graphic Art Botanical Garden” held in 1990. The color scheme of the linear silhouette is created by collages of colored paper. The motifs are reminiscent of the Rinpa school, such as “lilies”, and“Japanese irises”, along with a fantasy plant named “shitadashiso” (tongue out grass) that are depicted sharply and humorously. By projecting these motifs and colors on pleats, cotton and other materials, we recreate the sense of freedom and enjoyment of Ikko Tanaka’s works, and aim to create a lively look for the wearer.
This exhibition presents not only the poster works of Ikko Tanaka but items projecting these works.
