The graphic designs for ISSEY MIYAKE PARFUMS’ summer fragrances were created by world-famous French typographer Philippe Apeloig.Based in Paris, Apeloig is holding an exhibition at Ginza Graphic Gallery (ggg) from Monday, August 7.In addition to working for a large number of top cultural facilities such as the Louvre and Musée d'Orsay, Apeloig works internationally as one of France’s leading contemporary graphic designers.
Philippe Apeloig’s rhythmical, bold typography is marked by the great inspiration he receives from modernism and his deep love of paintings, the performing arts and literature. Posters may be a two-dimensional medium, but in Apeloig’s, three-dimensional text leaps off the paper and a story jumps out at the viewer, appealing deeply to the emotions.
In 2013, Apeloig held Typorama, a large retrospective exhibition at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He also held a private exhibition in Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, focusing on typographic posters.
This exhibition focuses on Apeloig’s ambitious recent works, including his latest works, and features the package designs of ISSEY MIYAKE PARFUMS products, such as its summer fragrances and Holiday Coffret, which focus on the themes of typography and landscapes. Other exhibits include a new venture into sable porcelain, numerous dynamic posters, and funky fonts and logos that are surprisingly exactingly designed. This exhibition provides the opportunity to enjoy a full view of Philippe Apeloig’s skill and attractive designs.
