"Tadao Ando Construction Site of 21_21 'A Hard-Fought Process'"

From Saturday, October 7th to Saturday, October 28th, 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT will hold "Tadao Ando Construction Site of 21_21 'A Hard - Fought Process.'" This is a program linked to the "10th Anniversary of the National Art Center, Tokyo - TADAO ANDO : ENDEAVORS," which will be held at the National Art Center, Tokyo.

21_21 DESIGN SIGHT opened in 2007 with its building designed by Tadao Ando. The architect had already been discussing the future of design in Japan with Issey Miyake, the founder of 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT. He was inspired by "A Piece of Cloth," which is the underlying concept of Miyake's clothes-making, and designed a structure with a characteristic roof appearing like a single piece of steel bent and folded. Japan's outstanding technological prowess and the artisan's scrupulous skills can be seen throughout the building.

This program will showcase the initial architectural ideas and sketches of the building, and part of the photos and videos of the construction sites, which were introduced in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Special Program "Tadao Ando Construction Site 2006 'A Hard-Fought Process'," a 2007 exhibition focusing on how the building came into being. A pop-up shop will also be open selling original items related to this architecture, as well as books on Tadao Ando, among others.

We hope this will be an opportunity for you to appreciate the attracts of the architecture that Ando had attempted to make as "a forum where the emotions in discovery and encounter are created," together with the exciting space of Gallery 3 which opened this March.
