Stories behind HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE

Encouraged all through endless rehearsals repeated, they carry on running, jumping and dancing!

Aiming to represent scenes from our vibrant everyday life, choreographic direction takes an unexpected turn thrillingly after countless trials.
It is a documentary film that tells how these three performances were realized, all of which started by groping for their way forward and came to a successful conclusion.

In 2019, more than ready to embark on a new stage, HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE headed out to Paris in order to reach more people with two performance projects: “PLAYGROUND” at the Centre Pompidou in January and then “A Walk in The Park” at the Place des Vosges in June, both of which started from nothing to open up a new horizon, resulting in an unimagined fruition.

“PLAYGROUND” Centre Pompidou, January 17th, 2019

In favor of HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE, a new kind of everyday wear which brings a sense of joy and freedom to the wearer, young Parisians of different races and ethnicities gathered for its new projects. Under time pressure, yet encouraged by director Daniel Ezralow –sometimes puzzled by his instructions, though–, they had carried on running, jumping and dancing until their last-minute rehearsal. Their struggle to reach where no one has gone before led to nurture a strong, enthusiastic sprit of teamwork, evolving into a burst of vital energy, which resonated with a cheering audience at last.

“the Aomori University Men’s Rhythmic Gymnastics Team” Yoyogi National Stadium Second Gymnasium, July 18th, 2013

In July 2013, just four months before the launch of HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE, a one-time-only event was staged: organized by Issey Miyake himself and featuring the Aomori University Men’s Rhythmic Gymnastics Team, the performance show, titled “Flying Bodies, Soaring Spirits”, was an unprecedented genre of spectacle to mark the birth of the brand, with the very costume designed by Miyake in person for this special occasion.
