The KURA gallery of ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “TATSUO MIYAJIMA.”

A visitor on the day throws dice to decide what the day’s exhibition will be.

KURA exhibition TATSUO MIYAJIMA is a collaboration with modern artist Mr. Tatsuo Miyajima, who is known for his work using digital numbers as a motif. Based on his work of LED digital counters, this exhibition introduces an analog method to look at Miyajima’s digital numbers that express time.

At the venue, there are panels wrapped in fabrics, used in the new project between Miyajima and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE, which made its debut this spring. Numbers from 0 to 9 are randomly woven into the fabrics of different patterns.

Every day at the venue, one visitor rolls a 10-sided die and then hangs the panel corresponding to the number rolled on the wall. The numbers decided this way become what suggests time. This completes the artwork for that day. Additionally, a video of the interview with Miyajima will also be exhibited.

This exhibition presents a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with Miyajima’s performative work and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE, a brand that explores the new potential of clothing through communication between the maker and the wearer.
