Launch of The New Project “TYPE-III Magarimono project”

A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE presents TYPE-III Magarimono project, an exploration with footwear brand MAGARIMONO of the fascination in design and making that integrates craftsmanship and technology to create something unprecedented.

Since its birth in 1998, A-POC has been working with technology and designing the process of manufacturing to realize new expressions and experiences of clothing. A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE, further developing A-POC’s approach, is collaborating with MAGARIMONO, with the intention to innovate the process of shoemaking through 3D printing. The project introduces original shoes as the product of the collaboration between the two brands that explores the next-generation manufacturing.

Inspired by the design of zori*, this pair of unisex sandals can be worn barefoot. It features a special, 3D-printed sole whose structure allows cords to be hand-woven directly into it. The woven part on top of the sole created this way not only resembles zori in design but also functions as a cushioned insole in practice, making this pair a product of technology and handicrafts integrated with qualities of both.
